This course is also appropriate for family caregivers employed elsewhere at least part-time (in any field) who seek to enter or re-enter the field of caring for persons who are elderly and/or those with disabilities.
Course content includes state-required training in skills every caregiver must know to be employed as a Home Health Aide, Personal Care Assistant or Orderly/Attendant.
Training prepares caregivers to earn the Direct Care Alliance nationally-recognized Personal Care and Support Credential. Instruction covers:
- Communication Skills/Dealing with Difficult Clients
- Ethical/Legal Considerations in Direct Care
- Principles of Person-Centered Planning
- Activities of Daily Living
- Infection Control and Sterile Procedure
- Transfer and Mobility
- Managing Medications
- Diet and Nutrition
- Complications of Heart Attack, Stroke, COPD
- Interviewing Skills that Get You the Job
The course begins Friday, January 24 at 5:30 pm, running for two hours that evening and continuing through Saturday, January 25, concluding at 5:00 pm. You'll receive a Certificate of Completion and be fully prepared to earn the DCA Credential.
This course is offered to caregivers at NO CHARGE. Meals are included.
You must apply by Wednesday, January 8, 2014 to be considered for acceptance. Class size is limited to 30 individuals.
