Dear Members and Friends,
It’s a great day. After nearly 40 years of exclusion, direct caregivers are finally guaranteed basic labor protections under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) yesterday formally extended FLSA protections–including a guarantee of at least minimum wage and overtime pay–to direct caregivers nationwide, a designation that recognizes them as the valuable, professional workers they are! New resources of the U.S. Department of Labor are already available about the ruling.
Thank you to New Mexico caregivers, advocates, agency officials, congressional leaders and providers for making this a reality.
ake a moment to thank President Obama here for his action yesterday, helping to pave the way for all of us who rely on qualified, well-trained workers in our homes and agencies.
