The New Mexico Direct Caregivers Coalition will host a workplace training program for those employed as direct caregivers (Home Health Aides, Personal Care Assistants or Family Development Specialists).
The course is also appropriate for family caregivers employed elsewhere at least part-time (in any field) who seek to enter or re-enter the direct care profession.
Course content includes state-required training in skills every caregiver must know to be employed as a Home Health Aide or Personal Care Assistant. Training prepares participants to take the nationally-recognized Personal Care and Support Credential. Instruction covers:
- Communication Skills/Dealing with Difficult Clients
- Ethical/Legal Considerations in Direct Care
- Activities of Daily Living
- Infection Control and Sterile Procedure
- Transfer and Mobility
- Managing Medications
- Diet and Nutrition
- Complications of Heart Attack, Stroke, COPD
- Interviewing Skills that Get You the Job
This course begins Friday, September 13 at 6:00 pm and continues through Sunday, September 15 noon.
This course is offered at NO CHARGE. Meals are included.
